Board of Directors

Dr. Ng Sui Yin

Sui Yin has worked as a Consultant Paediatrician and Child Neurologist at Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur for about twenty years. She was previously trained in teaching hospitals in London (UK), Toronto (Canada) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). In addition, she also provides EEG reporting services to Gleneagles Hospital Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

She has worked with many children with rare and chronic neurological illnesses along with their families. This is often financially and emotionally draining. Her interest in autism began in earnest when it was discovered her family member has autism with significant support needs.

Despite being in the child health field for many years, navigating this journey continues to be a challenge as autism is a complex lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder. The behavioral challenges and social communication difficulties posed by children and adults with autism often create significant hurdles for family life given its distinctive characteristics, as it sets itself apart from other conditions. She has found equipping herself with evidenced-based autism specific knowledge an important tool in this journey and this changes over time.

Sui Yin saw a need for better support, in Malaysia, and figures like parents, teachers, therapists and the wider community will benefit from this knowledge. It takes a community to raise a child, and this undeniably includes families with individuals with autism. She remembers her pastors often encouraging the congregations to bless the community as God blesses each individual with his/her resources, unique life experiences and expertise.

Together with the board members, the MARF foundation was established in 2022. MARF will strive to provide autism-specific resources and training that is trilingual and Malaysian-centric, which will improve the lives of the community.
