Persons with disabilities in Malaysia who are registered OKU are entitled to free medical treatment at all government facilities. However, parents may prefer private medical facilities for several reasons, such as convenience, familiarity with the personnel, or better accommodation of the sensory needs of their autistic loved ones.

Insurance coverage can greatly help protect families from significant out-of-pocket costs for their autistic child’s healthcare. However, buying insurance for people with disabilities in Malaysia, including those with autism and ADHD is very challenging. Many insurance companies decline coverage for people with disabilities, making it hard for families to get the protection they need.

There are not many insurance options available, but one solution is to look for policies that don’t require health evaluations, like universal-life endowments, which can offer a more inclusive approach to coverage.
